ARTRMX COLOGNE VOL. 01

The friendly society artrmx e.V. is starting the open tender for the art festival ARTRMX COLOGNE VOL. 01 in December 2007. Photographers, street artists, graphic artists, painters and video artists worldwide are invited to apply and be part of our exhibitions in Cologne at August 2008.

Their works should be sent in between 1st December 2007 and 15th April 2008 under the given subject “WHERE IS MY MIND?“. In collaboration with artistic advisors, the artrmx e. V. will assemble and distribute the work among different exhibition spaces. The curators are as follows: Dr. Barbara J. Scheuermann (curator „Tate Modern London“), Claudia Stein (chief editor „photography now“), Gérard Goodrow (director „Art Cologne“), Rik Reinking (curator | collector), Zevs (street artist | Paris), Boris Hoppek (street artist and graphic designer | Barcelona), Prof. Julia Scher (artist | professor „KHM“), Georg Elben (head of „Videonale“ 10 und 11 in Bonn | curator)

A metalic lace table Coco&Co, an association of 3 product designers and Steve Roy Creations TM, a company specialised in editing lamps as well as metalic funitures are launching a coffee talbe composed of 3 trundle elements. The Cubical Table recaptures the strong and original graphic pattern Cubical adding a participative dimension for the user.Composed of 3 different trundfle elements, the user is free to place and move them and therefore each configuration can have its appearence modified hence a different story to tell. The Cubical Table makes good use of the slenderness and precision of the laser technology in its cut in order to bring out the poetry and lightness to the rigidity of the base material : steel Just like a monolithic block would desintegrate itself little by little, the cubical table has a perfect rigidity and can be easily handled.

Jonathan Baskett

Jonathan Baskett was born in Canberra, Australia in 1969.

Interested in design he studied glass at the Canberra School of Art, graduating with honours in 1996. Immediately afterwards Baskett moved to Europe to work in the glass industry working throughout, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and England. In 1998, he was studio designer, maker and manager at Ebeltoft Glass Museum, Denmark.

In 1998 Baskett returned to Australia and founded Jonathan Baskett creative a studio focussed on the design and manufacture of hand blown glassware and freelance design of glassware for industry.

Baskett has participated in numerous Group and solo exhibitions in Australia, USA, Germany, Denmark and Japan. He is included in various collections including the Glasmuseum Ebeltoft Denmark, Ishikawa design collection Kanazawa Japan, and the Kunst und Gewerbe Museum, Dresden.

He is included in various publications including Australian Glass Today, Smartworks –Design and the handmade and Freestyle design for living.

Passagen 2008 Cologne

PASSAGEN 2008 – 14 to 20 January 2008 The time is approaching: From 14 to 20 January 2008 Germany’s biggest design event will take place in Cologne. The PASSAGEN festival opens the international design season and provides a platform for current trends in design, lifestyle and home living. For an entire week, Cologne becomes a temporary design metropolis – a Mecca for design-hungry and design tourists and a meeting place for design professionals and the international design scene.

The programme with over 150 shows by international designers and manufacturers, densely arranged along a trail encompassing the entire city of Cologne – a veritable “Who’s Who” of the design scene. There will be thrilling moments, brand-new concepts, designers “up close and personal”, inspiration and ideas for home and office, top-flight trends and stylistic tendencies – it’s all about design, one hundred percent. The focus is on evocative exhibits, presented both by premium high-end manufacturers and by young designers and networks, using experimental concepts in that electrifying place where design and architecture meet.

Just around the corner our designspotter offices, on Bismarckstrasse, the internationally renowned magazine Architektur & Wohnen will present the 12th annual A&W Designer of the Year with a special exhibit. The 2008 Designer of the Year is Tom Dixon, born in 1959 in Tunisia and currently living and working in London, who was selected in honour of his creative efforts to make design, style and aesthetics more accessible to a broad audience.

The PASSAGEN festival was founded in 1990 by Sabine Voggenreiter and is taking place for the 19th time in 2008.
