Space in which to expand the personality is provided by the seating furniture group from designers jehs + laub, whose design is based on the formal principle of an envelope. Trapezoidal surfaces form a cube that seems to hover in space. From an austere basic shape, CUVERT unfolds a soft, padded interior. The subtle ensemble comprising easy chairs, sofas in three widths and stools offers a high level of comfort. An appealing option is the finish in a combination of leather and fabric. Coloured coffee tables made of acrylic and felt carpets with wool appliqués complete the world of CUVERT. Designer: jehs + laub Made in Germany
product|added Jan 01, 2008 BERGE Design Hostel by Nils Holger Moormann
We hadn’t actually planned a Moorman lodge. However after the Moormann company acquired a plot of land adjacent to our base with the intention of building a warehouse, a dilapidated, listed historical building came as part and parcel. The construction – dating back to 1671 as home to the ‚Village bakery’, later became the Court bakery for the castle residents and delivered to the neighbouring Castle on the mountain, and later still became a guest house and following that a youth hostel– was so in need of repair that it wouldn’t have survived the imminent, mountainous winter conditions without emergency roof repairs. This promised to be the start of a new project: A new roof only makes sense when the attic is in sound condition. An attic requires storeys, which can support its weight and so on and so on. Firstly the historical structure had to be ascertained and exposed, while ensuring that as much of the original substance of the building as possible remains intact. The rebuilding unearthed numerous container loads of building rubble. Light is a major factor, proportions and materials. For example clay panelling, made simply of straw and clay, is used for the interior walls and provides a natural room temperature. The boss fiddles about with the crew and workmen on every detail and it is not out of the question that a wall is rebuilt three times just for a difference of a few centimetres. The end result will be 13 holiday apartments/rooms for Moormann guests and for all those interested in Design. It should be a meeting place, in the ‚Main chamber’ there’s room for 25, seated around the table or cooking at the stove. It has an uncomplicated air, like a lodge with ‚a few knocks’. With the number of books on offer (in all rooms and in the library – the ‚Literary chamber ’), there is plenty of chance to lose oneself in the „near silence’ . No TV, there is a large selection of CDs. One room is for back packers (‚Mountain pad’) with 6 sleeping cells – there are little kitchens for self-catering in all other holiday apartments. The building is progressing rapidly and with each step we attempt to retrieve the building’s original energy and dignity. The International Furniture Fair imm cologne is over now. And for all of us is was really a great event. We prepared 450 sqm for our FABULOUS FIFTY, so they could present their lamps, tables, wallstickers, benches, couches, seats and storages to the world public. Seven days of Trade Show Mania were to be rocked and we did all our best to deal hard and party hard, too. In the very beginning Mr. bordbar Stephan Boltz invited us to his Opening-Party at Cologne club "The O". Tomato juice flew like water, and not only this... Thursday seemed to overwhelm our expectations because of all the camera teams and journalists who were missing on monday suddenly appeared on our stand. German TV stations, print journalists from all over the world, radio teams and many more. At 2 p.m. we presented our hot new project "DESIGNSPOTTR Canada Lifestyle Tour 2008" on our press conference. Watch out for the video on designspotteragency.com. Program for wednesday night was: DESIGNSPOTTER Hangover Party at #TAUSEND Bar downtown Cologne. Each and every free-drink coin switched into pure liquid fun. But not only the yummy drinks burned like fire. Even the Porsche from our drink sponsor Schweppes let some guys` eyes sparkle (right, Jonas ;) ?) Perhaps you can imagine how we felt on thursday. Although being at the stand at 9 a.m., our brains kicked off at lunchtime. But we all did our very best and rocked the following hours and days at its best. To all you guys who took part in the big game: It was a pleasure! Thank you! And to all the others outside and around the world: Keep up! And thanks for your daily support. Without YOU we are nothing - with YOU we can be anything!

product|added Jan 01, 2008 Junkture Table by Beth Fuller
The Junkture Table makes a resounding statement: beautiful things can be made from junk. The table's centerpiece, a magnesium wheel rim, comes straight from the streets of New York City. Rescued from the junkyard, the rim served as inspiration for the Junkture Table. Urban junk becomes urban chic. The table's visual impact is striking due to its unique proportions and inherent optical illusions. Black glass frames the rim, masking the underlying steel support and making the table appear to float. The rim hovers several inches off the ground, and mesmerizing shadows are cast below. Opaque glass reflects the ceiling above, literally turning the world upside down. The Junkture Table is designed with sustainability in mind. All materials are locally sourced, reclaimed, 99% recycled and/or 100% recyclable. The Junkture Table is a stunning example of beautiful junk. What's beautiful in your junkyard?
