Shelf_zzz by Form-al

The horizontals, verticals and supports of shelf_zzz all unfold homogeneously from thin and stable sandwich-board. A hidden backbone for wall-assembly gives it stability. A new milling procedure specially developed for this material has enabled the creation of gentle horizontal and vertical curves. Concave and convex corner solutions allow the shelf system to flow around corners as well, adding to its attractiveness. Shelf_zzz can be made in different versions in eleven colours/surfaces. In 2007 shelf system zzz won the iF product design award.

Casuo ? mobile living furniture

Casulo is a complete set of room furniture which can be set up in less than ten minutes and later disassembled and repacked like a standard Euro pallet of 80 cm by 120 cm. No tools are needed in the process. A packed Casulo can be transported and stored at nominal expense by any carrier and shipping agent (part-load traffic). Not only can a disassembled Casulo unit be packed with one’s personal items. The Casulo itself is sturdy and thus no additional packaging materials are necessary when it is ready for transport. The Casulo can then either be sent to a prearranged address or delivered directly to one’s flat. Two people can lift, carry, and assemble each piece of furniture within the Casulo. The unit is constructed of durable, long-lasting materials. A Casulo offers a solution for today’s style of life - “Here today – move tomorrow.“

Coatlight by Mathias Hahn

The Unexpected Visitor - Coatlight An unannounced visit is like a letter that comes in with the post. It can either be a most welcome surprise or a rude emergency. The topic I was dealing with at the time working on this project is all about guests and hosts in situations we all know about. I like looking at these minor social situations (that we often overlook), in order to generate basic commodities that serve our everyday life. I am inspired by objects that are part of the ordinary day to day routine as they are the ones we are directly connected with. So this is more about subtle gestures than screaming statements. The Coatlight is basicly a coatstand that serves as a hall light at the same time, or the other way around. It identifies the entrance or hall as a kind of gateway that wellcomes the visitor. Eventhough the visitor might not be expected, the object creates an atmosphere of hospitality when switched on. The fact that coats or jackets are hanging rather inside the object than being thrown over it gives a hint of protection and indicates that the host is taking care. Underlining the presence of guests that already arrived gives late ones the chance to guess who is already inside as well. The appearance of the whole object is meant to be rather humble and focusses on functional details (like the cable that is simply pressed into a groove running up one of the legs) as well as on the use of materials in addition to a smart and simple construction (the lampshade is the only structural part holding everything in place). The lampshade is made from spun aluminium that is powder coated on the outside and brushed on the inside. The tripod is made from solid ash and is attached by wingnuts to avoid the need for tools when set up.
