People Portraits DS TV meets Prof. Michael ErlhoffMichael Erlhoff studied German Literature and Sociology at the University of Hannover (M.A.) and did his Ph.D in German Literature, Art History and Sociology.
1973 – 1980 assistant professor at the University of Hannover 1973 – 1981 editor of the artists’ magazine «zweitschrift» and several books 1979 curator of the exhibition «Visual Poetry» and «On Kawara» at the «Sprengel Museum Hannover» 1981 curator of the retrospective exhibition on «Robert Filliou„ (Hanover, Paris, Berne) 1981 – 82 chief editor of the art magazine «K», then radio editor and moderator 1986 – 87 co-curator of the exhibition about the «ulm school» (of design) and editor of the catalogue 1987 board member of «documenta 8», especially responsible for architecture and design 1987 - 1991 CEO of the «Rat für Formgebung/German DesignCouncil», including the organization of many exhibitions and conferences (Singapore, Nagoya, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York...). Among other activities establishing the magazine «Design Report» and editor of several books. 1991 (asked by the government of the German state «Nordrhein Westfalen») concept of an innovative design education at the University of Applied Sciences Koeln, founding dean of the «Koeln International School of Design» (KISD) at the University of Applied Sciences Koeln. Since 1991: full professor of design history and theory. 1998-2000 Curator of the two exhibitions «4:3 – Fifty Years of Italian and German Design» and «Today is Tomorrow» at the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bonn. 2002 - 2006: Dean of the «Faculty of Cultural Sciences» at the UAS Koeln.
Michael Erlhoff has
written or edited about fourty books and catalogues.
Since 2000 he organizes (together with Uta Brandes) the «St. Moritz Design Summit» (Switzerland). In 2008 he initiated the first "Kölner Design Preis" which is donated with $ 45.000.
