ROADSPOTTER in Edmonton: Tim Antoniuk

Tim Antoniuk was born in Edmonton, Canada in 1967. He studied business at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, and Sculpture and Industrial Design at the University of Alberta. In 1986 he formed Whirlwind Sails, a windsurf sail design and manufacturing company; in 1992 he co-founded The Hothouse Group of companies - a furniture design, retail and manufacturing company that sold its own line of products to over 750 international companies.

Over the past decade Tim’s design collaborations have won awards such as, The Apple/National Post Design Effectiveness Award, an award in the furniture category of the Annual ID Design Competition, and more recently, a major review of Hothouse’s work was highlighted in, “Habitat – Canadian Design Now”.

Today Tim is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial Design Program at the University of Alberta; he is a regular presenter at international design conferences on a new body of research that he has initiated on “morphing” products and interior environments; he teaches classes in contemporary furniture, sustainable design, and industrial design methodologies.

He is the Vice Chair of the Alberta Chapter of IDSA and is the owner and Design Director of ANT I.D. Inc. (specializing in contemporary lighting, furniture, products and interior design projects).
