Exhibitions Baroque porcelain from MeissenThe most important European porcelain manufactory of the 18th century was founded on 23 January 1710 by the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, Augustus the Strong. He ordered the invention of porcelain and the foundation of a porcelain manufactory in Saxony to be jubilantly proclaimed by decree. As early as June 1710, production was taken up at the Albrechtsburg in Meissen. Soon, the “white gold” from Saxony was to become the most coveted luxury article at princely courts throughout Europe. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Meissen manufactory, the museum will present a splendid selection of porcelain from a private collection in the Rhineland which will be publicly exhibited for the first time. Roughly 280 rare and precious 18th century exhibits will provide visitors with an insight into the varied range of products of this famous manufactory and the refinement of Baroque culture and intellectual world.
