Belgrade Design Week 2011

The sixth annual Belgrade Design Week is set to take place in the Serbian capital between May 23-28. This year's event takes the theme Future and as well as morning conference sessions dedicated to thinking about shaping the future of the Serbian design landscape, afternoon sessions will look to the "greatest minds of the 21st Century" to provide insight and inspiration....

Raising the bar each year, Belgrade Design Week has to work hard to justify the label of being one of “the best creative conferences in the world“, by critiques such as the Financial Times among others. The Israeli designer Arik Levy whose works are exhibited in museums around the world is just one name from a 50 plus list of global leaders of the creative industries, who will be presenting their works to the public during the upcoming 6 day festival. Others are the award wining Croatian architecture duo Penezic and Rogina, famous Spanish artist and designer Javier Mariscal, German furniture designer Stefan Diez, the probably most popular global design award Red Dot Award with its founder Peter Zec from Germany, German art director Mike Meiré famous in magazine circles for designing two of the most innovative magazines of recent times – brand Eins and Econy, architecture studio Snohetta from Norway, Switzerland’s ever-avantgarde musical legends Yello with its virtual concert and lecture by Dieter Meier

If you visit the festival, you will have the opportunity to enjoy lectures, works, presentations and exhibitions from world famous creative leaders and brands from the UK, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, USA, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Norway

Yello will be performing their virtual concert "YELLO TOUCH!"

2 designers + 1 BMW 328 @ Mille Miglia

BMW selected a trio of design greats to compete in this year’s Mille Miglia. Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design and Swiss industrial designer Alfredo Häberli took part in the world’s most renowned classic car rally in a white BMW 328, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. One of almost 400 participating teams, the duo set out from Brescia in northern Italy on 12 May. Following staging posts in Bologna and Rome, the team cleared the finish ramp in Brescia on 15 May. Adrian van Hooydonk, who had already taken part in last year’s race, was particularly happy about his co-driver for 2011: “I have long admired Alfredo Häberli for his design style – refined, unpretentious, with humour and a fine sense of detail.” Van Hooydonk and Häberli have known each other for many years and enjoy a professional exchange that is mutually inspiring and opens up new avenues for both. BMW 328: 75 years of the illustrious sports car The BMW 328 is a motoring legend, its claim to fame not least as the most successful sports car of the 1930s. To mark this achievement BMW fielded 12 models in this year’s rally. First built in 1936 and making its debut as a snow-white roadster, the BMW 328 is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary. Even decades later, this open-top two-seater draws admiration for its timeless beauty. Like barely another car of its era it embodies aesthetics, dynamics and innovation – values which BMW upholds to this day.
