The funnel that holds the ground coffee and connects the two pieces is made from borosilicate glass, so that when viewed from the side, the water can be clearly seen as it filters through the beans and becomes coffee. If used on a gas cook top or other open flame, the bottom tip of the bamboo handle will char slightly, making each iteration of this piece unique as they change with contnual use.
