Reception counter for Ellington Hotel, Berlin

The design of the new Ellington Hotel lobby adds with its supernal white surfaces a vibrant, lucent lightness as inspiring tune to the qualities of the important historic building constructed in 1932. The sensation of spacial dimensions disappears- light and brightness create a feeling of levitation and enhance the presence of all individuality. We use this concentration to welcome the guests with a particular organic designed reception counter and snuggle a gracious, slinky, free formed autonomous body of brass up to the existing structural design. We created the carcass with specially- tailored workstations as ambitious cabinet work. Referring to the historic elements of brass we coated the counter with fluent brass in a new innovative technique. The finish of the surface allows a light patina, which underlines the vivaciousness of form within the abstract white surrounding. In contrast to the astringency of the historic building all new space shaping elements are swinging in smooth white moulds to the waves of the golden sculpture.
