The building owners, a young family, needed additional space for the husband’s works as journalist and the wife’s acupuncture practice. The building which is cased with wooden slats, is an alternative solution to an extension of the main family home and makes for a separate, self-contained area for undisturbed working. Access to the structure is via the road, alongside the main house. One then steps onto the wooden deck, which floats above the lawn and folds to shape a room.

This is very like many garden office buildings found in the UK. Why do so many have flat roofs?
