CHANGING STATES

Torn lengths of fabric from a single retired US flag are woven through a mesh panel. It seemed appropriate to use the nations flag, reconfigured to reflect the positive notions of change and the aspirations to 'rebuild the United States'.

The portrait was unveiled at the New York Museum of Arts and Design on Inauguration Day 2009. The image became the official commemorative image for Barnes and Noble throughout the US on various products including T-shirts, posters, puzzles and mugs.

Designer: Benjamin Shine
Material: Single decommissioned US flag
Colours: red, white and blue
Dimension: 4ft x 6ft
