Pixelpoort Bicycle Tunnel

Windmills, multiculturalism, wooden houses, nature, harbour and polders. Dutch designers Overtreders W (Reinder Bakker & Hester van Dijk), Maartje Dros and Eric Klarenbeek designed the 280m long pixellated walls of the Pixelpoort bicycle tunnel in Zaandam (NL) in collaboration with local residents. Via pixelpoort.nl people submitted images drawn pixel by pixel illustrating what they were most proud about in their region. The pixels are translated into tiles, an important Dutch cultural symbol.
