Sweeping Cocktail Table

Bent sapele stretchers become compositional elements in this sculptural cocktail table. New York designer, Nico Yektai, has developed his style around spontaneity. The clear glass top melts away until one of the stretchers and legs rise above the surface, reminding the viewer that it is there.

Wall Hung Console

The first in a new series of wall hung pieces that explores the tension created by a massive piece that floats delicately on the wall. The platform allows for the inclusion of drawers. Drawers always add a moment of discovery that is in keeping with my asymmetrical and unexpected sensibility. This can be seen in the one drawer that opens out the end of the console, rather than out the from like one would expect.

Desk #2

The desk is composed steam bent curve by curve to give a sense of spontaneity and movement into the composition. The legs frame the corners and create a rhythm of their own as they rise above the surface of the desk at the corners. The final touch, the drawers, add a level of interactivity to the piece. They all open in different and unexpected directions challenging expectations and continuing the notion of movement central to this handmade desk.

Curved Dovetail Console Table

Two sweeping curves create a poetic overlap that changes as the viewer moves around the piece. The glass top allows for this interplay to become a part of the composition from every possible viewing angle. A dovetailed mass holds the glass at one end. The dovetails are massive and expressionistic, as is al of Yektai's work.

Bench 3 by Nico Yektai

Designed during a period of experimentation with cast concrete. The plastic nature of the material allowed for new forms to develop in my work. bench #3 from Series #2 marks the moment when I was able to cast a very complex shape. The bench can be made in a number of different kinds of wood and concrete. Size can be adjusted as well since each bench is handmade. The bench is also capable of living outdoors if specked as such.

Corner Piece #3

I designed this piece to occupy the often neglected part of a room, the corner. Cast concrete is at the center of the one of a kind composition. The two woods are chosen to compliment the color of the concrete.

This version of the piece is presented in Cherry, natural concrete and dyed ash.
