Ornaments for Antique Armchair

Nina Levett found an antique armchair and decided to give it a new life. She developed ornaments telling the story of a drug-consuming, neurotic housewife who looks for ways to escape the boredom of her sad, dreary domestic life. The title of the work is "Sperm Sofa".

Believe Liar narrative wallpaper & textiles for furniture

Austrian designer Nina Levett creates narrative ornaments for wallpapers and textiles. In this installation Nina Levett shows a wallpaper that tells the story of a young prostitute who has married a client but finds herself losing her identity. The title is “Believe Liar”. During the day her husband wanders about the city in search of prostitutes instead of going to work whilst she lies at home in bed trying to sleep. Words like “lie, sleep, trust” add the narrative element to the artwork.

Alfa Romeo tableware & wallpaper

The work was commissioned in 2009 by Illustrative a website that showcases fresh, innovative and new design, and Cult Work. The purpose of the invitation was to celebrate the centenary of the Italian car manufacturer, Alfa Romeo. Female figures and phallic cars dissolve into one another and are absorbed into the structure of the object.
Power, masculinity, sexual dominance and sexual prowess – the explicitness and exaggeration of Nina’s interpretation is once again bold and unsettling.

Inflate your plate

I want to portray a type of housewife that has gone astray into a marriage which has locked her in - like a predator in a small cage in the zoo, not adapt to the needs of a very young woman. The variations of her life consist in small changes: fridge open/closed, dishwasher open/closed, plates on the ground/on the shelf,...

Alpine Poesy Tableware

The Alpine Poesy collection is comprised of traditional symbols that are printed on products, and also presented on textiles with the Austrian Alps embroidered style of 'Heimat'. Mixing these traditional symbols with sexual images is somewhat strange and they work in contrast to each other. The combination of sex and Alps is a sort of sweet and sour mixture.

Nightgown

Handmade nightgown printed with black sperm.
The use of the doll is symbolism for being under pressure. The expectations. Just a toy. No feelings. Thoughtlessness. Boredom.
Everyday objects like pans and brooms. Interpreting the meaning of things. Trying to cognitively understand how one feels.
A permanent failure.
