PortscapesFor the exhibition Portscapes which reflects on Rotterdam’s monumental harbour extension, Overtreders W designed shipping containers out of textiles. These iconic symbols of the harbour are fashioned from fabrics of differing transparencies–voile, cotton and cheesecloth–providing a physical and intimate backdrop for the artworks, many of which include visuals and sound. Through the play of transparencies they paint an illusory image of docklands in reference to a harbour that’s not yet built. Designer: Overtreders W (Netherlands)
Pixelpoort Bicycle TunnelWindmills, multiculturalism, wooden houses, nature, harbour and polders. Dutch designers Overtreders W (Reinder Bakker & Hester van Dijk), Maartje Dros and Eric Klarenbeek designed the 280m long pixellated walls of the Pixelpoort bicycle tunnel in Zaandam (NL) in collaboration with local residents. Via pixelpoort.nl people submitted images drawn pixel by pixel illustrating what they were most proud about in their region. The pixels are translated into tiles, an important Dutch cultural symbol.
