Sustainable Dancefloor

The dutch company Sustainable Dance Club in collaboration with Paullides and the Technical University Eindhoven has invented a way for clubbers to go out and party and be less wasteful. Their solution?  A Sustainable Dancefloor.

The Sustainable Dancefloor is innovative and fun. It is made up of smart electronics, software and materials that capture the energy put out by the people dancing on it and changing it into electricity.  Their activity and weight determines the amount of power generated, which can be up to 20 Watts per person. The electricity is then used to change the colors of the LED dancefloor lighting that reflect the energy being produced.

The dancefloor is also used to power the rest of the club. One example being the sound system. So the more clubbers dance, the more power is generated and the more sustainable it becomes.

The first club to use The Sustainable Dancefloor reopened in September '08 in Rotterdam. Club WATT has now become the first club to activly take the steps toward a more efficient clubbing scene. In collaboration with the Sustainable Dance Club Company Club WATT has also installed the

- Minimal Waiste Bar
- Pee Experience
- Green Oasis and Inner Garden.

They hope to reduce their energy consumption by 30 and Water cosumption by 50%.

The success of the energy generating dancefloor at Club WATT has resulted in national and international requests for the product. To let others experience the Sustainable Dancefloor it is now on tour. After that it will again be at Club WATT for certain weekends every month.
