Love and design have more in common than one might think at first glance: they can both break old habits and shape new ways in our day-to-day lives, they can both be exhilarating, a true revelation, but also potentially disrupting, both individually and collectively, and they can both have the power to make us see the world in a new light. Love Design by no means has to be a contradiction as shown by the objects presented in this book. This is where emotion, sensuality, eroticism and sex go hand in hand with shape, design and function, leading to the creation of an extravagant composition. The objects illustrated in Love Design deal with subjects such as love, eroticism and sexuality in a rather unusual way: a golden heart that has been woven together with the word “love” in various languages, a sculpture made with table and chairs but also cheeky fruit condoms, dildos that obviously donʼt just happen to resemble lollies and other sex toys. Their innovative materials and bright colours are anything but conservative. Exuding free sexuality and sensuality in this rather friendly and happy way means that people would never consider hiding these items away. Only selling them in sex shops would be inappropriate, as their colouration and the obvious fun factor, as well as the blatant invitation to touch and try them, belies any common taboos. Renowned architects such as Karim Rashid and Matali Crasset have given their fancy full scope and created objects that no one wants to hide. Some of which quite obviously are connected to the traditional erotic art, with others clearly being linked to the sexual revolution, the female emancipation as well as the lifting the taboo on homosexuality.
