DMY Berlin Review

Kicked off in June, the seventh edition of DMY International Design Festival Berlin presented more than 550 international designers within over 100 different events. Capturing contemporary product design the festival invited professionals as well as the wide public to a varied program of exhibitions, lectures, panel talks, workshops, performances and parties.

The seventh edition of DMY International Design Festival „Same same, but different“ focused on design that makes a difference – whether in social, ecological or aestetic regards. The exhibits like bicycles or modular shelves offered forward-looking solutions – be it in the form of new sustainable production concepts, the creation of new public spaces or the alteration of economic processes.

Despite the moody weather that really challenged this year DMY impressed with the quality of works and the inspiring exchange going on at this year's festival and all its different spots.

The DMY Allstars celebrated their premiere at ÏMA Design Village, the DMY Youngsters impressed with their experimental and playful concepts - two of them, Mischer'Traxler and Sandberg Institute, were honoured with the DMY Awards.
The extended venues easily kept up with that with a varied range of different events and showcases - from the airpiano performance at betahouse to the Material Sense Workshop exploring possible applications of future and sustainable materials at the Royal Netherlands Embassy.

While the Youngsters also showed a lot professionalism and sophisticated concepts for a better living, the professional designers within DMY Allstars showed matured designs as well as experimental approaches and sustainable projects that reveilled a different angle to their work.

A yet same, same, but different set-up is already in the pipeline for the all-new and improved year 2010. Stay tuned for more news on that one soon.
