bordbar lifts off with airberlin in 2011
Two classic bordbar designs will be on board of the airberlin planes, the “airports black” and the “worldmap black”. Both types will be brand-new and like all other bordbar trolleys meet all standards and requirements for use in the sky. “Compared to other manufacturers our models are somewhat lighter and have the distinctive bordbar design”, managing director Stephan Boltz explains. The company was founded in 2006 and already has a global network of over 220 trade partners. Boltz’s co-founder Valentin Hartmann adds: “Five years ago we started revamping disused airplane trolleys and transforming them into design objects for private use. Now we’re making a U-turn and finding our way back into the skies. Hence, we are about to reach one of our greatest business objectives.”
Exceptional design paired with high functionality and environmental friendliness: These were the criteria which convinced airberlin to take the bordbar trolleys on board. “The trolley as a commodity is transformed into an exceptional design object by bordbar while conforming to our high quality standards. The trolleys are made of a very light material and therefore positively influence fuel consumption. This way we can maintain our reputation as an environmentally conscious airline”, Thomas Ney, Chief Product Officer airberlin explains. The bordbar trolleys will be travelling around the planet until the end of October. After that they will touch-down in the Cologne-based bordbar workshop where they will be given a face-lift and furnished individually before going on sale as used collector’s items just in time for Christmas.
bordbar design GmbH was founded in 2006 by designer Stephan Boltz. He and his partner Valentin Hartmann manage the company together since 2008. The Cologne-based company has an international distribution network comprising more than 220 trade partners in Germany, Europe, Israel, China, Mexico, Venezuela, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Saudi-Arabia and the USA. Approximately 130 trolleys are produced each month. The majority are distributed via furniture shops around the globe. Other bordbar customers include Lufthansa Worldshop, L’Oreal, Renault, Volkswagen, Radisson Blu and Kempinski among others.
Thanks to a cooperation with the airline Air Berlin bordbar trolleys are also in use in general aviation since 2011. The bordbar-silver edition received the reddot product design award in 2011. Extraordinary pieces of furniture for multifarious purposes. Brand-new or used, according to taste: Bordbar trolleys are available in a variety of patterns, colours and functionalities. Each model is manufactured separately, furnished with the desired elements and refined with an individually designed adhesive film. Be it a bellowing stag, a butterfly, a dandelion or a world map with three letter international airport codes – the design possibilities are colourful and manifold. Personalised designs such as company logos or corporate design features can be implemented. The tailor-made interior design elements easily transform the trolley into a mobile filing cabinet, a shoe cabinet with shelves or a mini bar with shelves, lighting and glass front. Extras such as illuminated shelves with remote controlled LED lighting are also available.
bordbar trolleys are high-quality, robust and durable. As recycled, recyclable and low-pollution products they conform to modern consumer demands when it comes to sustainability. The robust workmanship coupled with high-quality materials such as stainless steel and aluminium make the trolleys virtually indestructible. bordbar gives customers a 30 year warranty.
